Marula oil is extracted from the kernels (nuts) of the fruits of the Marula tree (Sclerocarya birrea) which comes from the Anacardiaceae family. Thousands of years ago, native women discovered that the oil from the marula fruit could be applied to their skin to shield them from the sun. Later, it was discovered that marula could help prevent moisture loss, improve skin tone and improve elasticity. Marula contains extremely high levels of antioxidants and essential fatty acids such as Omega-9 and Omega-6.
The fruits, which ripen between December and March, have light yellow skin, with white flesh that is rich in vitamin C— containing about eight times the amount found in an orange. They are succulent and tart with a strong and distinctive flavor. Inside is a walnut-sized, thick-walled stone. These stones, when dry, expose the seeds by shedding 2 (sometimes 3) small circular plugs at one end. The seeds have a delicate nutty flavor and are much sought-after, especially by small rodents who know to gnaw exactly where the plugs are located.
Marula Organix Oil of Africa was developed to harness the power of marula oil which is rich in Omegas, Vitamin C and known to improve the elasticity of skin.
